General Impression
Overall Rating: / 10
Volunteering in Vietnam for 10 weeks was one of the best things I've ever done. I learned so much about the country, the locals, the culture and myself during that time. I already miss it and look forward to my next volunteer opportunities.Country
Vietnam is a beautiful country. It was my first time in Asia so it was interesting seeing the difference in culture to Switzerland or Europe in general. It is impressive how much and how fast this country is changing and how far they have come since the war. The locals were often sceptical when they saw me but as soon as I smiled they had a huge smile on their faces too. Most of them love foreigners because they are told that they can learn a lot from us. The whole time I was there I felt very safe even when travelling alone.
Ho Chi Minh is a very busy and loud city so it can be overwhelming. It's not my favorite place so it felt good to escape on weekend trips. The country itself has a lot to offer and I fell in love with it.

Project & Staff
I worked at two different projects. The mornings I spent at a kindergarten teaching English and playing with the kids and the afternoons I was at the Highschool as a teacher assistant. That's exactly what I loved about this program. They have multiple projects so everybody will find something that works for them.
I loved spending my days with the children. At the beginning it was very challenging for me because of the way they teach or run the school. It's so different to my country. But after a short time I got used to it and it was such a nice feeling to make the kids laugh while teaching an important language.
The staff in Vietnam were all lovely. They were helpful and always made sure we were taken care of.

Tips
I would recommend to stay for a longer periode of time. It takes a couple of weeks until you get used to all the different aspects and until the children really get to know you too. It would be a shame to leave right after!
t's a big step to travel to a different country and volunteer but it will be a wonderful experience!
