“The boys were wonderful ”

General Impression

Overall Rating:    10 / 10

Firstly l would like to thank the company for having the contact with me throughout my volunteer experience. . I have volunteered 2 times before and this didn’t happen. So much appreciated it. I was absolutely fine but it’s wonderful to have it there so l can pass back pictures and fun times along the way.
I volunteered at the Monastery in Nepal for 2 weeks. The teaching was from 3-5pm all but Saturday’s.
Very basic yes but that doesn’t matter, all help is great help. The boys were wonderful ageing from 5-18 yrs. 20 in all.? Of course their Tibetan classes and daily routine comes first but they are very willing to learn from you.
All of the other time l chose to throw myself into their life. Which was from spending 3hrs picking weevils out of grain or helping the cook prepping for meals, chopping food.
The Guru/Lama of the monastery was also interesting and wanted me to help him with reading.
His wife Omkarmari was delightful and spoke English.
We would sit by the fire at night and chat and l listen while the boys wanted to know things about life in general.
The cook had 2 daughters and the boys have grown with them in their lives.
It is a place of refuge, many coming from bad situations or parents have died.
It was a wonderful experience l will treasure for life. Being privileged to have been part of their lives and their personalities was delightful.
I would say , if you don’t like camping then maybe this is not for you...... you must be aware this is a 3rd world country whose history has been quite brutal to many, the government trying to keep their people alive..... not the rubbish to be removed, or teaching of environmental issues.
Again l shall have this one big happy family always in my heart
Thankful Heather
Namaste ?
