“Teaching English”

General Impression

Overall Rating:    8 / 10

I have very much changed my impression during my stay, expecially about the project: at the beginning I thought that there wasn't very much to do for me in Moldova, eventually I'm sure that I have received much more than I gave.

Country

Moldova is quite small and has curiosely become more an agricolture based country than it used to be in the Soviet era. There is almost nothing really interesting to visit. Nevertheless, most of the people I got in contact with, sometimes very accidentaly (e.g. the hairdresser), are very nice, warm and welcoming, ready to lough and to enjoy life. My host family was fantastic and invited me to partecipate in activities such as beekeeping or to work in their Vineyard, that were great for a city-person like me. Lots of excellent food!

Project & Staff

The first week I was engaged in teaching English in small groups, but there wasn't really much I could do, because the Moldovan teacher mostly took all the work.
In the second week we started the summer camp with some 25 children aged from 6 to 12 and that was lots of fun.
I fully admire the creativity, the energy, the intelligence of Svetlana, the group leader. She offers to Moldovan children not only an extraordinary life opportunity, but also a glimpse on a broader world.

Tips

Prepare games, social activities, small entertainment ideas. Overhead projector is available.
