“the best internship I could ask for”

General Impression

Overall Rating:    10 / 10

It was my first volunteering experience. Everything went very smoothly and the whole stay overcame my highest expectations.

Country

I felt very safe, local people I met were always nice. Zimbabwe is a beautiful country and has a lot to offer to visitors.

Project & Staff

Douglas and other staff were absolutely amazing! They were unbelievably helpful and caring, helped me with everything I asked for. Accomodation was wonderful and they cared for me better than any luxurious hotel staff would!:) They checked on me on regular basis and made sure I experienced everything I wished for, even if it meant lots of time and planning from their side. I am very thankful for everything they did for me.
Project in the hospital was soo great, beyond what my english can describe. I learnt so much, I got so much practice. The hospital staff was amazing, very patient with me and very friendly. They taught me a lot and made me feel like I was a part of the team, too. I was amazed how great healthcare they were able to provide with very limited resources (compared to europe). This was amazing experience that will be very useful in my future career. Definitely the best internship I could ask for.

Tips

There is serious shortage of small denominations of US dollars. I had to exchange money before departure and obtained bigger US dollar bills - it was very challenging to pay for stuff as almost nobody had a change to give you back. So I would suggest to bring as many 1 dollar bill as you can!:)
Also pay attention to weather - I came for zimbabwean winter: days were hot but nights could be very cold. I met other volunteers who struggled a bit because they did not bring warm clothes.
