Education Support
This vital program is designed to empower children—and their teachers—in Maasai Mara by providing access to quality education. Many students in local primary and secondary schools face challenges that affect their ability to attend school regularly or keep up with their studies. Some have missed significant time and require extra help to catch up. Our goal is to support these children, enhancing their learning experience and opening up greater opportunities for their future.
Volunteers will work alongside teachers in elementary and high schools, assisting with existing classes and introducing additional workshops to enrich the curriculum.
-
Tutoring Core Subjects: Volunteers will provide one-on-one support in subjects like English and Math, helping students who have fallen behind. With large class sizes, teachers often can’t give individualized attention, so your help will make a real difference.
-
Planning and Leading Workshops: Volunteers can organize creative activities—such as sports, art, music, dance, or mental health sessions—that complement classroom learning. These workshops give teachers time to plan their lessons and offer students engaging, varied experiences. All activities are coordinated with the local team to ensure they meet community needs.
No formal teaching qualifications are required, but volunteers should be comfortable tutoring individual children and collaborating with others to plan and run group activities.
Goals of this Project:
- Provide an educational foundation to give children from Maasai Mara a chance at better prospects.
- Get children involved in activities that support their Mental Health.
- Promote gender equality through positive activities.
- Enable inter-cultural exchange which benefits both locals and international volunteers alike.
How You Can Help
Volunteers in this rewarding teaching program play a vital role in shaping the futures of children at participating schools. Beyond helping students master essential academic subjects, volunteers also have the chance to broaden their horizons by introducing them to new ideas and perspectives from around the world.
Volunteers should be ready to teach creatively with limited resources and collaborate closely with local staff to plan and organize engaging activities.
Additionally, volunteers may be asked to provide extra tutoring after school, offering focused support to students who need help strengthening their skills in core subjects.
Volunteers will contribute in a number of ways on this program and can expect to undertake the following tasks:
- Support the teachers with one off lessons.
- Tutor children, especially in the core subjects - English and Math.
- Play sports and other games with the children.
- Work with students on projects and activities.
- Assist school staff in organizational tasks.
- Do a session about the country they come from.

While having a basic knowledge of the local language is helpful for effective communication with staff and students, it is not a requirement.
Above all, we seek volunteers who bring a genuine willingness to help, strong initiative, and a positive, can-do attitude. If this sounds like you, we’d love to have you on our team!
Additionally, volunteers applying to join this program will be required to supply to following documentation:
- Emergency contact
- Passport
- Police check
Project Location
Volunteers will be based in Oloolaimutia, a peaceful village on the edge of Kenya’s iconic Maasai Mara—often referred to as the “Kenyan Serengeti.” This world-renowned wildlife reserve attracts thousands of visitors each year, eager to experience its breathtaking safaris and rich natural beauty.
The area is rural and authentic, with a small town just a five-minute walk from the volunteer project site and a traditional Maasai village located directly across the road. While the town offers a few local shops and bars, amenities are limited—there are no large supermarkets, giving the area a distinctly local and unplugged feel.
Every Tuesday, the community comes alive for Market Day, where you'll find a lively display of cattle, fresh produce, handmade goods, and more—a vibrant glimpse into daily life in the Mara.
Evenings in Oloolaimutia are especially memorable. Under vast, starlit skies, volunteers often gather around the fire to share stories and connect, making lasting memories in a truly magical setting.
