“Couldn’t have asked for a better experience”

General Impression

Overall Rating:    10 / 10

Incredible experience, from the amazing host family to the very kind and helpful staff at LV. Very eye opening, and at times emotionally challenging (especially in the first few weeks of adapting), as you experience a culture shock. Couldn’t have asked for a better experience and I’m taking away so much from it and hopefully leaving the kids with new experiences as well.

Country

A beautiful country, with amazing people. Stunning nature and wildlife. However, a lot of poverty which can be quite hard to see most days as you feel very sorry for them. But Kenyan culture is very relaxed which I loved.

Project & Staff

Everything went completely smoothly. Pendo and Edu were amazing and I am very sure I will keep in close contact with them for years to come and I hope to come back and visit them. Pendo was so helpful in organising things I needed to buy with the donations from home and I wouldn’t have been able to provide so many educational items for the kids if it wasn’t for her. Karen at LV has been amazing, checking in on me regularly and showing a genuine interest in what I’ve been doing and I’ve been very impressed with the whole experience.

Tips

Be careful of people who come up to you claiming they need medicine or money for their children as giving them money will feed their drug addiction.
Try to do something with your time here that’s beneficial in the longer term, such as fundraising which is something I did and found incredibly rewarding.
Don’t bring cotton clothing, bring clothing that’s breathable and not heavy to avoid sweating huge amounts.
