“Go with an open heart and mind”

General Impression

Overall Rating:    8 / 10

Excellent logistics and communication from start to finish. The programme itself well planned with a variety of activities that cuts across all age groups. This has its pros and cons which I highlighted in my feedback to Ms Birim. Appreciated the cooperative nature of the programme working with other stakeholders. I would have appreciated a home stay which builds lifelong friendships and serves as a cultural exchange. The journey to and from the project though far and time consuming was insightful.

Country

Traffic is horrendous but it adds to the cities charm. Excellent transport system. For such a touristic destination better signage would help on the public.
The National Airlines with it countless delays is disappointing.

Project & Staff

All the staff at both Foundations were friendly and got me involved in all the activities. I felt at home even though language was a barrier.
I have to single out Ayse Birim who made my stay seamless. Also the two local social work student volunteers who help with translation when it was required.
Because of the nature of the programme I was advise to be modest and respectful. I was asked not to take pictures and assured that pictures will be forwarded to me.
Ms Birim did make a feedback video which she will send to later.

Tips

Go with an open heart and mind. While extending yourself in kind do so with empathy. Sometimes as mentors and caregivers we have to be an iron fist in a velvet glove.
