Project & Staff

I worked at Sahajanand Special School Clinic and at the Kisuani MAT clinic Mombosa, at first it was challenging because before I came to Kenya, I hadn't worked with either kids with special needs or recovering addicts. The job offered me an opportunity to use my skill and personality to help these people & bring smile to their faces. It also brought smile to my face too as well as fulfilment. I'll always cherish the opportunity. I worked on both projects for 4 weeks simultaneously.
At Sahajanand, being the first volunteer Pharmacist at the clinic amongst other things, I designed & introduced templates & tally cards for requisition at the stores for proper inventory management & use of patient encounter forms for proper record of dispensaries. I also made a proposal for a temperature controlled storage space, however this wasn't approved yet by the time I left. I'm proud of myself for the little contribution I made & I hope in the long run, it makes the Pharmacy more efficient for the benefit of those wonderful kids & the generous sponsor. I must say the staff of Sahajand were so nice and warm to just me but the kids. God bless them.

The staff (Mr Edward & Ms Pendo) were quite helpful & always available. They made my stay convenient & memorable. I enjoyed the meals Ms Pendo made especially the ugali & vegetable sauce

Tips

Kenya has an amazing landscape & a fascinating culture, the people though diverse (especially in the Mombosa area, mix of indigenous blacks, Indians & Arabs) are welcoming. There are loads of beautiful places to see and so much fun activity to do.

In all, there's so much you can offer in terms of your skill. Be open minded, do your best and give your all.
