Overall Rating:    10 / 10

Volunteering in Bosnia and Herzergovina was a life-changing experience. I was coming out of a tough personal situation and wanted to go back to contributing to society's betterment, especially with children and young people, who are close to my heart as a former school teacher. Little did I know that I would learn just as much as I taught others and it was a journey full of discovery and long-lasting memories that I would not trade for anything.

Country

One of the best travel experiences I have ever had due to the warm-hearted people, historical melting pot and great value for money. Travelling can be an adventure sometimes (both on the public transport AND if driving) but that is a part of the charm - roll with it and enjoy stepping out of your comfort zone.

Project & Staff

A fine group of people that will stop at nothing to make your stay comfortable and rewarding. It is natural to perhaps feel some culture shock in a place where English is not very well known but you will be taken care of, from completing your mandatory registration to a safe place to live and tips on what to do and where.

Tips

Come with an open mind and open heart; due to a myriad of circumstances, Bosnia and Herzegovina does not get the same attention as some of the other former Yugoslav republics but do not mistake that for a lack of culture, things to do or a bad experience. Do not expect the lap of luxury, especially if coming form Western Europe or the Americas, but give the project everything you have and you will come back feeling refreshed in spirit and with immense satisfaction at having directly made a difference in peoples' lives.
