Rabat Childcare Program
Volunteers will work closely with Moroccan children and youth, helping them develop essential life skills that are often overlooked. Your support might include teaching basic language skills, assisting with computer literacy and mathematics, and organizing educational and recreational activities such as music, theatre, arts and crafts, and outdoor games.
While working with children in Morocco can present challenges, having some knowledge of French or Arabic will greatly enhance the experience and make it more rewarding for everyone involved.
Volunteers play a crucial role in supporting under-resourced teachers, providing the additional attention and assistance that the children truly benefit from. Your contribution will be deeply appreciated by both the teachers and the children alike.
Goals of this Project:
- Provide essential care to vulnerable children in Morocco
- Improve the future prospects of children with a solid education
- Give children quality care, compassion and a sense of hope
- Enable inter-cultural exchange which benefits both locals and international volunteers alike.
How You Can Help
Volunteers play a vital role in supporting disadvantaged children who have limited access to educational resources. Your time will be spent caring for and assisting these children, with a flexible attitude being essential as tasks vary widely—from helping with homework to preparing meals, cleaning, and assisting with daily chores.
Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own skills and interests to the program, working alongside local teachers to create activities such as music, dance, sports, arts and crafts, and more. You may also be involved in basic lessons covering the alphabet, numbers, reading, storytelling, and promoting health and hygiene.
This project offers a meaningful insight into the lives of Moroccan children, who are always eager and excited to welcome volunteers.
Volunteers will contribute in a number of ways on this program and can expect to undertake the following tasks:
- Help to care for the children
- Help to teach the children
- Attend to and interact with the children
- Create activities and entertain the children with games
Requirements
Love Volunteers welcomes all those 18 years and over who wish to assist in the development of Morocco's next generation. While this highly rewarding project does not require participants to have a background in the field of childcare, as there are many ways you can assist, volunteers with suitable education, qualifications or experience are highly sought after. Regardless, a volunteer’s individual role can often be tailored to suit their particular skills and interests. Ideally, volunteers on this project will have at least a basic knowledge of the local language in order to communicate effectively with staff and students, though this is not a pre-requisite. All applicants must of course display a genuine willingness to help, show drive and initiative, and bring a positive 'can-do' attitude. If this sounds like you, we want you on the team!
Additionally, volunteers applying to join this program will be required to supply to following documentation:
- Emergency contact
- Police check
Project Location
Rabat is a modern city known for its wide boulevards, lush gardens, and elegant white buildings—quite a contrast to the bustling, maze-like streets of Morocco’s other imperial cities like Marrakech and Fez. Yet, Rabat is no less rich in history, with roots tracing back to the 7th century. The King of Morocco resides here in a magnificent palace surrounded by trees and flowers.
As Morocco’s administrative capital, Rabat has a more conservative and serious vibe, but the city’s charm shines through in its old quarters. The Medina and Kasbah offer a more relaxed atmosphere filled with local color, alongside plenty of recreational opportunities and beautiful nearby beaches.
The city center is compact, making it easy to explore on foot. Public transport is convenient, with clearly marked local buses and an abundance of petit and grand taxis available at the airport, train station, and main boulevard.
Rabat Ville’s main train station sits in the heart of the Ville Nouvelle, just minutes from most hotels—making train arrival the preferred option. The station even houses a bureau de change and a car rental office. For bus travel, the main terminal is located at Place Zerktouni, about three kilometers west of the center. Grand taxis from Casablanca and Fez drop off here.
Rabat’s airport lies seven kilometers north of the city. While grand taxis are the only public transport from the airport, catching one is straightforward.
All in all, Rabat is a seriously cool and welcoming place to volunteer!

Arrival & Orientation
Upon arrival into Rabat-Sale airport volunteers will be collected by a representative of the local project team and transported to the volunteer house accommodation where they will join a full orientation session where a representative from the local team will fill you in on local and regional customs, traveling, rules and recommendations, and of course, what to expect from your volunteering experience in Morocco. This is a great opportunity to get to know your hosts, meet your fellow volunteers, and ask any last questions you may have.
- Program Arrival Day: SUNDAY
- Program Departure Day: SATURDAY
- Arrival/Departure Airport: Rabat-Sale International Airport, Sale, Morocco (CODE: RBA)
While it is best to fly directly into Rabat, many volunteers choose to arrive at Mohamed V Airport in Casablanca. An airport pickup is not included from this location, but a train runs directly from the airport every half hour and takes 1h 50 minutes to Rabat Ville Train Station, our local team will collect you from here. Train tickets from Casablanca to Rabat cost about US$10.
Accommodation & Meals
Volunteers joining our team in Morocco are accommodated with one of our carefully selected local host families - which are perfectly located in safe and convenient suburbs close to their project locations.
There are hot showers available, and western style toilets. Linen is provided, but volunteers are asked to bring their own towels. Laundry is done for you by the host family.
Internet is available; however, volunteers can also purchase a local SIM card and purchase a data plan in order to have internet access when they are outside the home.
Volunteers are provided 2-3 meals per day with your host family.
Volunteers can either walk to their placement each day or take public transport such as shared taxis or tramways. The cost of public transport ranges between US$1 to US$2 per day.
Staying with a local Moroccan family is a great way to be truly immersed in the local culture. All families have been fully vetted by our local team. The families are experienced in hosting international volunteers and will take very good care of you.
