About the Program
Sadly, millions of children living in the slums of India grow up in conditions of extreme poverty, without access to even the most basic education, healthcare, or proper nutrition. In cities like Delhi — India’s vast and densely populated capital — slum communities are home to a large number of these children, many of whom live in overcrowded, unsanitary environments with little to no opportunity for growth or development. Their families often struggle to meet daily needs, making education and emotional support secondary concerns.
Trapped in a cycle of poverty, these children are among the most vulnerable in society. Their lives are marked by hardship and uncertainty, with limited exposure to the resources and opportunities that could help lift them out of poverty. For this reason, the assistance of international volunteers is truly invaluable. By offering basic education, emotional support, mentorship, and care, volunteers help bring light into the lives of these disadvantaged children.
Through this meaningful program, volunteers can make a lasting impact, helping to build a nurturing environment where children from the slums feel valued, inspired, and empowered. With time, love, and guidance, these children can take meaningful steps toward a brighter future and become contributing members of society, full of hope and potential.
Goals of this Project:
- Educate and empower vulnerable children and youth in Delhi
- Improve the future prospects for children living in slums
- Provide care and attention to those in need
- Provide an opportunity for cross-cultural exchange between volunteers and locals
How You Can Help
Volunteers who choose to join this amazing project will work hands-on, at various Childcare Centers in and around New Delhi. Volunteers assist with all aspects of the children’s well-being and help provide essential life skills, such as basic literacy and general knowledge. Playing sports, games and recreational activities is encouraged to develop motor skills, physical stamina, and teamwork. Volunteers also raise awareness of the importance of health, hygiene, and nutrition, working towards a better standard of living for the children and their families. Volunteers are often required to use improvisation and creativity on this project and will find the effort they put in instantly rewarded, sometimes in life-changing ways! Volunteers can expect to work for 5 - 6 hours per day, 5 days a week, and are welcome to bring pens, pencils, pictures, simple games, etc to help engage, empower, and entertain the children.
Volunteers will be kept busy on a variety of tasks on this wonderful program and can expect to:
- Provide basic care to children
- Teach children essential life skills and basic education
- Plan and run recreational activities
- Engage with the children to promote social development
