About The Project
This fantastic program was developed to improve the education of children in the beautiful city of Jaipur. The aim of this teaching and assisting in schools program is to help lay the foundations for a better future for each child by providing a solid educational base for students. Volunteers will teach and assist local teachers across a range of subject matter, with a particular focus on the English language. As a busy tourism city, skills in English are seen as integral for future employment prospects. A solid education can lay the path out of poverty for many, with volunteers greatly assisting on this road. Love Volunteer’s aim for this important program is that it is a mutual exchange of skills and experiences that enriches both parties. Volunteers may find that they learn as much from the children as the children will learn from the volunteers!
Goals of this Project:
- Provide English skills to children in Jaipur
- Improve the future prospects of the children of Jaipur
- Expose non-English speakers to native English speakers in order to improve pronunciation and conversational skills
- Enable inter-cultural exchange which benefits both students and international volunteers alike.
How You Can Help
Volunteering to teach in India will be a hugely rewarding experience for any international volunteer. Students will learn a great deal from a native English speaker, along with the local teachers who will find the tuition and conversational skills helpful to their own English language skills. Volunteers on this program will adopt the ‘Play-Way’ method of teaching. The aim is to create a playful environment and enhance the creativity of the children through painting, playing games, singing etc. Volunteers working with pupils in classes 1-5 will assist teachers in delivering the English and mathematics syllabus, alphabets, counting, days of the week, months of the year, manners, writing practice etc. Volunteers will also help to deliver hygiene and environmental education. Volunteers will spend their time assisting the local teacher with daily activities, and will spend time teaching and playing with the children. They will contribute in a number of ways and can expect to undertake the following tasks:
- Help the teacher with the planned classroom activities
- Assist with the delivery of a range of academic subjects
- Converse in and teach basic English to the children
- Play games and read to the children in English
- Help the children complete projects
Love Volunteers welcomes all those 18 years and over who wish to help create a brighter future for children through the power of education. This project best suits those with experience and/or qualifications in the field of childhood development and education, though volunteers who simply wish to explore an interest in this field are also welcomed as there are many ways you can assist in the classroom. Whist not mandatory, completing a TEFL course prior to joining this project would prove to be highly beneficial. Ideally, volunteers on this project will have at least a basic knowledge of the local language in order to communicate effectively with staff and students, though this is not a pre-requisite. Importantly, all applicants must first and foremost have a genuine willingness to help, show drive and initiative, and bring a positive 'can-do' attitude. If this sounds like you, we want you on the team!
Additionally, volunteers applying to join this program will be required to supply to following documentation:
- Emergency contact
- Police check
Volunteers on this amazing program have the opportunity to stay in India's 'Pink City' of Jaipur and enjoy it's unique architecture, shopping and famous Rajasthani cuisine.
