Youth Support Puerto Rico

Education Support Puerto Rico

Volunteer in Puerto Rica with Love Volunteers in partnership with a fantastic local NGO and be part of a better future for the youth of this incredible location!

This important program working with Educational Support in Puerto Rico is focused on children and youth from disadvantaged backgrounds. These young people represent Puerto Rico's future and yet are often lacking the support and resources they need in order to thrive. This is often due to underfunded schools and a lack of access to after-school activities and safe places for the children to achieve to success. Volunteers in Puerto Rico support local organisations committed to bridging this gap and  volunteer assistance is welcomed to plan and implement their initiatives.

This program is perfect for volunteers who believe in the value of education and have a passion for helping young people achieve their potential.

Goals of this Project:

  • Provide support to schools, educational facilities and after-school programs
  • Improve the prospects of US children trapped in the poverty cycle
  • Encourage young people to continue in education
  • Enable exchange between volunteers and communities that cross cultural, religious and socio-economic barriers

How You Can Help

Volunteers on our Educational Support in Puerto Rico program provide much-needed labor on essential projects working to improve access to educational resources and provide safe spaces for disadvantaged youth. Participants on this program should have a 'can-do' attitude and a passion for improving the life and prospects of American children and teens.

As the program works with a variety of community organizations, volunteers will be paired with the project that has the greatest need and which most closely aligns with their skill-sets. This ensures that the work our volunteers undertake is both meaningful and beneficial to the communities they serve and worthwhile and rewarding for the volunteer themselves.

Volunteer work will vary depending on the projects being undertaken at the time of placement and may be within public schools, community centers, summer camps, playgrounds or after-school programs. Volunteers can expect to be involved in activities such as:

  • Assisting with educational and after-school programming
  • Helping to organize, manage and develop resources
  • Beautifying and maintaining safe spaces and public schools
  • Tutoring children and teens

Love Volunteers welcomes all those 18 years and over (17 with parental consent) who wish to help create a brighter future for children through the power of mentorship and education. This project best suits those with experience and/or qualifications in the field of youth development and education but volunteers who simply wish to explore an interest in this field are also welcomed as there are many ways you can assist.

Importantly, all applicants must first and foremost have a genuine willingness to help, show drive and initiative and bring a positive 'can-do' attitude. If this sounds like you we want you on the team!

Additionally, volunteers applying to join this program will be required to supply to following documentation:

  • Emergency contact
  • Police check
  • Resume

Project Location

USA, Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico is indomitable beauty and intrigue!

Situated in the Caribbean archipelago, the island of Puerto Rico offers much to entice and entertain visitors: from sun-drenched coastline and sparkling beaches to the forested inland mountains and colourful streets of Old San Juan. Puerto Rico has persevered in the face of both natural disasters and a tumultuous history and emerges today as an intriguing product of its Spanish colonial history, Caribbean location and status as a US territory since 1917.

Volunteers have the opportunity to unveil the hidden charm of this island, to see beyond the high rise condos and often crowded roads, streets and beaches.  To volunteer in Puerto Rico is to experience its rich culture in full colour.

Additional Info

Changes to the Education Support program in response to COVID-19:

Please note that, due to the current COVID environment and government regulations, the Educational Support project as been amended for the time being. Volunteers are not able to interact directly with children as a preventative health measure and schools/after-school programming are not currently operating as normal. We will do our best to facilitate a youth support related project within the community but it is important to understand that the project will be experiencing disruptions and the project focus may need to change to one such as Community Development. It's
important to keep in mind that the most important thing is to support these
communities (especially those most heavily affected) based on what they need!
